LOCAL BANDS WE LOVE, pt 2

Boomchick at Luckeys 2018

5 killer bands we’ve played with in the past yearish. You’re welcome.

  1. Athiarchists. Take-no-prisoners metal from two pieces of absolute fury. Spontaneous and righteous AF. We can’t even.
  2. The Variants. Knock you off balance they will, with their unexpected, captivating indie rock!
  3. The Wild Jumps. Hoppy and yet not bitter, these incisive punk rockers bring the party with their engaging, tight set!
  4. Pirate Radio. Classic punk is alive and well and that makes us really happy! YEAH!
  5. Fox Medicine. This glam-art-rock duo holds it down with style to spare. Fox Medicine will steal your girlfriend.

It’s been a great year of music for us…

Who have YOU seen live this year?
Enjoy this badassery from the PNW and get to your local music venue STAT!

Boomchick
Boomchick and Station Wag

“Some people rely on Facebook to tell them what’s going on in town, I am one those people. I have noticed there has been a significant decrease in FB invites coming my way. Summer is slow around here. A few straggled in, but I’ve haven’t seen much since Blockparty.

Last night I had a lull in my schedule and Katelynn posted on Facebook about a show at Luckey’s Club, Station Wag and Boomchick. I have never heard of the bands, I looked them up on the interwebs and both bands seemed to have a solid following. I made it to Luckey’s by soundcheck. I grabbed a beer, Ranier of course and waited for everything to come together.

Boomchick is up first.

I liked this band from the very first riff. They have a great sound and well practiced. I felt there was room for more raw bass riffs. Still, a tight band. Towards the end of the set a guy takes the stage with the band and did a 90s rap-over-heavy guitar set. It was a tight freestyle kinda thing, it worked well.

I was surprised that there wasn’t a big crowd for this band, especially for a band this good and on a Saturday night at Luckey’s.

Station Wag closes the show.

I knew I was going to like this band the moment they took the stage. Maybe it was the big bearded guy on drums or the black-metal styled guitarist with the low slung Les Paul. I really liked this band. The lead vocalist has a such a huge voice and strong stage presence. The two guitarist rip. The bass and drums hold it down. A really good band!

P.S. You can see what we’re up to every day on our Facebook page! Stay in tune and in touch! Hope to see you at a show soon!!

Local Bands We Love

Here is a list of some kick-ass local and regional bands that you should totally check out!

Been meaning to do this for a long time. Alrighty then!

In order of most recent introduction:

the Shifts.

These kids have it dialed. Watch out , they are polished, garagey, and comin at ya! Weezer meets Metric.

Pale People

Whoa. Hailing from Missoula, MT, these cats will make ya go “hmm?” and spend the next hour of your life happily glued to their original rock mastery. Neutral Milk Hotel meets Primus? Nuts!

ColdFire

Ok, disclaimer: there are other “coldfire” entities out there to confuse you. This is the indie rock music one, from Eugene!

Crazy indie-punk/new wave rockers who get hotter and hotter with every song in their set! Talking Heads meets Pearl Jam! Just, good!

Magpies

What’s in the water up in Missoula, MT? (Oh, probably just…pure water) Bass chords and sweet female/male vocal trades = tight indie rock-ness all over the place! the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Yeah!

the Indiscretions

Holy Mama Cass, Beth Ditto! Samantha got pipes and she knows how to use them! Her band more than holds it down, too, featuring an Underling amidst the Soothesayer crew. F-u-n ass shaking 60’s style punk!

This is but a small sample of the bands rockin’ our town on a weekly basis. Gonna try to keep the list goin’, cuz indie rock is a labor of ❤️.  So check these bands out and give ’em some!

Aren’t we lucky here in the Eug?

Who have you seen lately that blew you away? Tell us in the comments!

As always, thank you for flying with Boomchick!
